Every winter you can skate on ice in the middle of the centre of Rotterdam. In December they build an ice rink on Stadhuisplein. After the ice skating you can have a warm drink at one of the bars that are suited around the skating rink. When this is not enough and you want to go for the real work, then, let’s go to Kinderdijk (a half an hour away from Rotterdam). Most of the time you can skate there on the iced lakes in January. It’s really cool to skate on the ice over there and watch the different windmills that are along the way.

Skating in ice in the middle of the centre

Stadhuisplein is a famous square in Rotterdam with lots of café’s and bars around it. In winter it’s nice to go over there, to sit outside on one of the terraces. Most cafes have one. I hear you thinking: “Sitting outside in winter? The terraces are covered and they all have heaters. Some even have fleece blankets, so it’s nice and cosy. In front of the terraces you will have the small ice rink on the square in winter. Lot’s of people are skating over there and are having fun. If you don’t like ice skating, then it’s anyway fun to watch others doing it!

Skating on real ice

In winter every Dutchman is excited, can we skate on nature ice or not? Hopefully we can! And if yes, you must visit Kinderdijk. There is a big lake at Kinderdijk and along this lake there are a lot of windmills. It’s really cool to skate there and watch the windmills. But please be careful when you go on ice for the first time, it’s quite difficult. But if I have learned ice-skating, you probably will too !
