Granny’s Finest is a club of knitting grandmothers and a few grandfathers too. The scarves, hats, mittens, hair bands, socks and neckties that they produce each week are sold at the Granny’s Finest shop. Rotterdammers Jip Pulles and Niek van Hengel are the driving force behind this brilliant concept.
Grannies at work
Senior citizens feeling isolated at home. It's a familiar problem. But the young entrepreneurs Jip and Niek have hundreds of grannies knitting for them each week. And it's been a success. There are now over 200 grannies and a few grandpas involved in Granny’s Finest. The group continues to grow and in other cities too, senior citizens are getting together to knit for Granny’s Finest. Would you like to see them 'live’ in action? Then come to the shop on a Friday afternoon, because that's when the regular knitting club meets.
A scarf with a message
All the items sold at the shop come with a label bearing the name of the Granny who made it. There's also a fun little story and a message to whomever is going to wear the hat or scarf.
The shop on Karel Doormanstraat has become too small, so the grannies will soon be moving to another location. Watch the website for the new address.

I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
