A market with fresh, local artisanal productsRotterdam
A boatload of cucumbersUp until the 1960s, the Noordplein was the place where boats carrying cargoes of cucumbers, lettuce, cabbages and tomatoes would arrive via the River Rotte to dock. This colourful square is where Rotterdammers would get their fruit and vegetables. So it's satisfying to know that now, 50 years later, once again a monthly farmer’s market is being held. Only minus the boats.
Mustard from GoudswaardAt the Rotterdamse Oogstmarkt you will find over 40 stalls selling artisanal products and fresh fruit and vegetables. For example, there’s cheese from Streefkerk, mustard from Goudswaard and eggs from ‘de Vierhavens’. It's just the way an authentic farmers market should be, which by the way is one of the city’s oldest public events. But this one is alive with music, entertainment and an outdoor café. Sound appealing? Stop by the Noordplein on the first Saturday of the month between 10 AM and 5 PM. Opening hours Every first Saturday of the month (except in January and August) from 10 AM to 5 PM.
I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
