A small village in a big cityRotterdam
A village in a city? Visit the square at ‘Nieuwemarkt’. It’s really nice and comfy. There are a lot of small shops and lunchrooms in this area. Take a cup of coffee at the Urban Espresso Bar and take a peek at the lovely new fashion store Louen.
Experience the quietness of the big city
Not that many people know this spot, called Nieuwemarkt. That’s actually a bit strange because it’s in the middle of the centre near a couple of famous streets, like Pannekoekstraat (pancake street). These streets around this spot are really crowded but when you enter the square at Nieuwemarkt you will experience the quietness.
There is a couple of boutiques located around this square. My favourite one is Louen. It’s a fashion shop were they sell brands like Eleven Paris, Just Soaked and Gstuz. Next to this shop there is a small brown cafeteria, where elderly from Rotterdam are sitting the whole day. I don’t think they speak English, but I’m sure they are very friendly. If you are looking for vintage clothes, then take a peek at Very Cherry. They sell lovely vintage accessoires and clothes. Next to Very Cherry you will find a café called The Urban Espresso Bar. It’s a trendy bar and you can also have lunch over there. They serve organic food and it’s always fresh. Take a delightful espresso and a slice of bread with goat cheese. Make sure that you won’t miss that spot, it’s so nice! Oh and when you’re visiting the Nieuwemarkt on Tuesday or Saturday, then also visit the big market of Rotterdam (Binnenrotte-Hoogstraat), it’s next to the area.
I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
