This British chain of organic bakeries is popular among Paris' in-crowd. Stop by to savour berry smoothies, organic eggs with chives and to-die-for carrot cakes, all in a friendly and very New York atmosphere. The takeaway deli corner is also perfect.
An organic beehive
Of course, the bakery is somewhat cramped and stretched out. The wait can be long, for reservations aren't possible. The tables are tiny so as not to interfere with the ballet of waitresses and delivery men. Also, you really must be quite the gourmand to come admire the swirling spectacle of this buzzing beehive. Just as the Pompidou Centre freely exhibits its ducts and cables, here the room seems designed with the elegant aesthetics of functionalism.
For a gourmet stop
Take advantage of your Parisian outing to fill up with fresh vitamins and taste the bakery's delicious English pastries and homemade cheese cakes. The subject of extensive renovation work for the past dozen years, this corner of the upper Marais District is magnificent. Numerous art galleries and boutiques surround Weber Métaux, ever popular with decorators, which seems anachronistic although a century old.

Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
