GALERIE DE ROUSSAN
Art on the frontlineParis
GALERIE DE ROUSSAN
10 rue Jouye-Rouve
Belleville isn’t just a string of shops and Chinese restaurants. It is also the new Parisian centre of contemporary art. The Roussan gallery provides a new space dedicated to the work of young artists.
In Paris, the gallery owners in the 3rd arrondisement are shutting up shop because of the exorbitant rents. Belleville is different. It’s where everything is possible.
Still affordable, the area attracts artists, gallery owners… and soon foreign collectors!
An area of artistic ebullience
Jocelyn Wolff was the first to abandon the traditional art trading districts to move into the area. She was followed by galleries Balice, Hertinlinget, Bugada & Cargnel. Then by Le Creve Coeur and Marcelle Alix who opened up on the Rue Jouye-Rouye, the new haunt of young artists. This is where the Roussan Gallery has chosen to set up.
La Galerie de Roussan
Recently arrived, the Roussan gallery sets the tone: only artists who reflect the world around them exhibit here. Painters, sculptors, or video/film makers, French, Serbian, Australian or English… each of them stating their own view on society. At the beginning of the New Year a group exhibition confronts the work of 4 young artists on the theme of the line and the frontier…For Francois Mazabraud (photo), a super power teeters on the edge of absurdity.
Open: From Wednesday to Saturday from 2 pm to 7 pm
Group exhibition in January and February 2012
Mother, bohemian and Parisian, I love Paris' cosmopolitan side and warmth. Exhibitions, walks, outings with the children...I'll take you on a discovery of the most welcoming places in Paris. My little extra: with my love of food as my compass, I always set course for the best lemon tarts in the city.
