Hotel + Bar + Gallery = MarsilCologne
My hot tip for anyone interested in photography, film and alternative vibes is the Marsil, located in the city centre. The combination of a hotel and bar that hosts photography, fashion and art exhibitions makes any visit here an event in itself.
A night’s rest in a unique environment
The ten apartments in this listed period house are decorated in a unique style that combines modern and functional furnishings with classic second-hand furniture from times gone by. The result is that no two rooms are alike. Some people might find it a bit too quirky or even kitsch, but it’s the break from normality that I like personally. It’s no coincidence that the rooms are sometimes reserved for photo shoots, and businessmen in need of a meeting space can avail of the all-white exhibition hall, which is of course also used as a gallery.
An individual bar that will raise your spirits
The creative heart of the Marsil is its downstairs bar, with a fireplace and an oh-so-famous sofa where more than one celebrity has sat over the years. (And me too!) Illustrious guests include the German group Klee and Hamburg DJs from Moonbootica. If you’re lucky you might just bump into the hotel’s curious owners, Frank and Cyrus, who are sure to provide stimulating conversation. I often envy the guests, who need only collapse into their beds upstairs after a great night out.
I've always loved Cologne. The city is industrial and romantic at the same time. I love my city for its galleries, classical concerts and elegant restaurants and its traditional and very trendy bars! My little extra: I love words, the arts and literature!
