A little culture is essential. And when it comes to 20th century and contemporary art, the more the better, as far as I'm concerned. So I practically have no choice but to visit Museum Ludwig, at the foot of Cologne Cathedral.
Picasso, Warhol & Co
Nearly 9,000 m² of exhibition space is dedicated to works from the Expressionist and Russian avant-garde movements, but even the Bauhaus, Dada and Surrealist styles are present. I always start off my visits with the fascinating pop art section. In addition, Museum Ludwig houses the world's third largest Picasso collection. And as if all that weren't enough, the museum also boasts one of the finest public libraries of modern art and photography.
What a night!
Museum Ludwig has concocted an exceptional event for art-loving night owls. The first Thursday of every month, the museum remains open until 10 pm. Not only is admission half price after 5 pm, but all sorts of evening activities are organised: conferences and small concerts, as well as live performances such as a cabaret or dance shows. To top it all off, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Afterwards, the terrace offers a grandiose setting for an intelligent discussion of the evening's impressions while admiring the soaring cathedral. During the summer, the terrace even welcomes an outdoor cinema.
I've always loved Cologne. The city is industrial and romantic at the same time. I love my city for its galleries, classical concerts and elegant restaurants and its traditional and very trendy bars! My little extra: I love words, the arts and literature!
