The Maritim Hotel is located in an imposing building of somewhat decadent charm. It's much more than a hotel: its immense gallery is full of shops, restaurants and cafés. It’s a "city within the city". You would never leave if it weren't for the fact that you have to go out to see the city's Cathedral, cultural spots and old city.
A city in the city
With 454 rooms on seven floors, six underground parking levels and a 100-meter long gallery, the Maritim is a giant hotel that plays with superlatives. The Maritim's central hall is designed like a "piazza" with terraces and shops. It’s bathed in light thanks to its huge windows. You can stop in at the Heumarkt Café for a gâteau à la crème, spend some time at "Stuff" for an initiation to Cologne brewing or go up to the roof to enjoy top-notch cuisine and a striking panoramic view.
At the heart of things
In addition to the plethora of services offered, the main draw of the hotel and its very nineties architecture is its location. The Maritim is located on the Rhine and has a footbridge that leads directly to the left bank of the river. From there (or from one of the other entrances to the complex), it's only a short walk to the tourist and cultural heart of Cologne.
The old city with its many bars and restaurants, the central station, the cathedral, the philharmonic orchestra and the Ludwig and Romano-Germanic museums all beckon.
I'm a translator and editor for several publications and I love the hidden side of the city, its secret gardens, its discrete gourmet restaurants and its new, high-design spots. Outings with my friends end late at night. My little extra: a dynamic, fun and really trendy Cologne!
