Tausend Fliegende Fische Modesalon
Roonstraße 16
Cologne
www.facebook.com/pages/Tausend-fliegende-Fische-Modesalon/264791953576886?hc_location=timelin
At Tausend fliegende fische you will not find thousands of flying fish, as the name suggests, but fashion mavens will certainly feel like they're walking on air.
A bit off the beaten track, away from the bustling shopping streets of the city centre, this small, trendy and well-stocked boutique cultivates its own special atmosphere as a “fashion salon”. On the “salon” side, you will appreciate the somewhat dated furnishings and décor that contribute to a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. On the “fashion” side, the clothing, accessories and brands on offer are characterised by their timeless and “uncomplicated” elegance. Located at the crossroads of a student thoroughfare and a street dotted with young and pretty shops (Engelbertstrasse), Tausend fliegende fische aims to attract young customers (or youthful ones) who are looking for original and exclusive items.
One can see why the shop features “little” brands like Blutsgeschwister (from Stuttgart) or more well-known names in sportswear (Bench). There is a wide selection of jeans (Mavi, Lee, Meltin’ pot…) and you can get personalised advice, although this can vary when there are a lot of customers, which can be helpful in finding the ideal fit. The prices are not excessive, but exclusivity is never cheap. Luckily, there are sales and seasonal clearances where you can find interesting items at discounted prices.
Open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm
Metro: Barbarossaplatz or Zülpicherplatz
I'm a translator and editor for several publications and I love the hidden side of the city, its secret gardens, its discrete gourmet restaurants and its new, high-design spots. Outings with my friends end late at night. My little extra: a dynamic, fun and really trendy Cologne!
