In the Alhambra district, known for a thriving prostitution scene, le Flamingo took the bold move of opening its doors in 2012. This bar, not shy about its hip ambitions, is the creation of Nicolay, the designer of numerous other successful bars in Brussels, and is equally audacious in its use of colour, it’s somewhat ‘bobo’ clientele and electro music.

Love it or leave it

Either the sight of prostitutes on the sidewalk in front of the sprawling café Flamingo repels you. Or perhaps it intrigues you, or you simply don’t care, and that’s fine. In any case, there’s no avoiding the surroundings. And judging from the crowd jockeying for drinks at the bar, you could certainly consider it a success. The always-sunny patio probably has something to do with it too, which catches the rays thanks to reflective panels affixed to the building across the street.

Daily specials and sandwich platters

At lunchtime, le Flamingo is transformed into a restaurant that still has that element of self-service. Place your order at the long zinc bar. It’s best to ask about the daily special since it’s not always displayed, but is generally a hot dish, usually with meat. If you prefer soup or a sandwich, a menu lists the various toppings that will be served along with your half-baguette. You get to mix and dose them however you like! Evenings, le Flamingo serves tapas. Not enough to make a full meal, but perfect to tide you over while you choose just the right restaurant along the place Sainte-Catherine.

Open daily, 08:00 - midnight (at least!)
