Built in the early 1970s, Louvain-la-Neuve is a new and very surprising city unlike any other in Belgium. This unusual city is located 40 minutes from Brussels. It's primarily a university town that was created following the language dispute of 1968. Its outstanding architecture and utopian city atmosphere are really worth a trip.

The last new city in Belgium

Louvain-la-Neuve is truly the last new city founded in Belgium. The previous one was Charleroi, which was founded in 1666. The city was inaugurated in 1972. In 1973 it only had 676 inhabitants and an additional 1500 or so students came during the daytime. The city now has over 10,000 residents and continues to grow. Nearly 20,000 students come in every day to take classes at its 11 different faculties.

Unique architecture

I love Louvain-la-Neuve's futuristic architecture and daring buildings. From Montesquieu Square to the Science and Technology Library, which opened in 2006, the city continues to draw ambitious urban development projects that give it a unique status in Belgium.

My fashion job takes me around the world throughout the year. I love flea markets and hunting for antiques year round, meeting up with friends at art show openings, going to fashion shows and being first to discover a new restaurant.
My little extra: introducing people to the "arty" and underground side of Brussels!"
