Abbaye de Forest
9 Place Saint Denis
+ 32 (0) 23321119
Every year in September, the Forest Abbey goes back in time to rediscover the ambience of medieval Belgium. The Abbey comes alive with concerts, theatre and many other kinds of entertainment. It's also an opportunity to watch historic re-enactments in an extraordinary setting.
The origins of the Abbey stretch back as far as the 5th century. The Priory was established in 1106 using Benedictine funds as well as several donations. Sadly, it was destroyed in a fire in 1764. 200 years went by before it was fully restored and now it is a protected site, right next to the Place Saint-Denis. It's an ideal spot to switch off and take a break in the beautiful gardens.
Swordfights and hydromel
As well as a small medieval market, visitors can take in a swordfight or sample a hydromel* while discussing all of life’s intrigue. Or alternatively, dress up as a minstrel or troubadour. I simply love immersing myself in a world I’ll never have the chance to see first-hand.
Open every day, except Monday and Tuesday evenings.
* Alcoholic beverages should be consumed in moderation. Please drink responsibly.
My fashion job takes me around the world throughout the year. I love flea markets and hunting for antiques year round, meeting up with friends at art show openings, going to fashion shows and being first to discover a new restaurant.
My little extra: introducing people to the "arty" and underground side of Brussels!"
