L'union fait la faim stands out because of its discretion and wonderful recipes. It’s a bit like the canteen of the Forest district, just off the Place de l'Altitude Cent. The ambience here is that of a book fair – at once intimate and comfortable. I try to come here whenever I need a change of scenery.

Best sandwiches around

I simply never tire of the sandwiches on offer at lunchtime. They’re prepared on site by Sébastien, who personally welcomes each customer with a smile. You can bring along your favourite book and relax after your meal, reading quietly. It’s hard to go wrong with the tomato and mozzarella combo, seasoned just so. I can also recommend the mixed salads, which are top notch.

Home cooking

The idea here is to recreate the authentic cuisine of one’s childhood: olive and tarragon chicken, homemade stoemp dishes or cream of vegetable soup. This restaurant is open on Sundays, a rarity in Brussels and a treat for those – like me – who are too lazy to cook.
L'union fait la faim also hosts a special culinary evening on Fridays, with dishes like raclette, tartiflette and chicory gratin, and stays open a little later than usual – ideal for a night out with friends.

Open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7 am to 6:30 pm, Friday from 7 am to 9 pm, Wednesday from 7 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm.

My fashion job takes me around the world throughout the year. I love flea markets and hunting for antiques year round, meeting up with friends at art show openings, going to fashion shows and being first to discover a new restaurant.
My little extra: introducing people to the "arty" and underground side of Brussels!"
