Christmas is approaching fast, along with the eternal problem of buying the right gifts. The children in my family are both demanding and curious, so on the advice of an authentic inhabitant of Brussels, I headed for The Grasshopper, near the Grand Place. A world of intrigue awaited.
A woman once took it upon herself to combine toys and quality games to delight the children of this world. The Grasshopper was born, offering high standards and great choice. The shop's managers scour the planet for two months each year looking for unusual games and new toys.
Diversity and quality
So what would I find for my adorable niece and nephew? The only drawback at The Grasshopper is that you're spoilt for choice. This playful paradise brought me back to my youth and I couldn't decide what to opt for. A musical instrument? A small wooden train? A racing track? Bath toys? An evil villain costume? Children's books? In the end a set of marbles for my nephew and a diabolo for my niece made two satisfied customers. As for me, I go back every now and then to rediscover the simple childhood pleasures.
I teach tennis in the city and also write about culture for a number of publications. I love to travel and meet people. My city? It's an improv concert in a down-to-earth bar, an exhibition built on a work site, a play performed in the heart of the old city... My little extra: combining sport and culture!
