The facade of the Nova is like an invitation to journey into the unknown. The first time I walked by I didn't dare cross the threshold. This Mecca of alternative culture, with cult status in Europe, offers cinema buffs and culture vultures an insight into a mostly secret world.

Behind the curtain

The Nova, which was set up in 1997 a stone's throw from the Grand Place, boasts a selection of films that are not to be found on the usual circuit: films that prove unpopular or are not distributed, and independent productions that adopt an alternative and unorthodox approach to this art form.

A living picture house

Referred to as a "living picture house", this place attracts people looking for something unusual, whether it's feature films, short films or documentaries. Unmissable events include the Offscreen festival, TV Nova and the Nocturnes, all great opportunities to experience thrilling cinema with a difference.
The Nova is an ideal spot to discover new things and meet new people, a place where you can chat over a few drinks until all hours. It also regularly hosts photo exhibitions, eclectic concerts and plastic arts performances.

Gabriel, 32 TENNIS PRO

I teach tennis in the city and also write about culture for a number of publications. I love to travel and meet people. My city? It's an improv concert in a down-to-earth bar, an exhibition built on a work site, a play performed in the heart of the old city... My little extra: combining sport and culture!
