Tarascon and Beaucaire
The banks of the RhôneAvignon
Boulevard du roi René
In the centre of Tarascon, much of which is pedestrianised, you can wander between the wonderfully-restored hotels and the crumbling buildings. This combination of styles is what makes this town so attractive.
On the banks of the Rhône, you can visit the Château du Roi René, which is a combination of a medieval fortress and a Renaissance palace. From its tower, there’s a superb view towards the Alpilles and Mont Ventoux. And for the kids, a treasure hunt is a great and fun way of exploring the town. You’ll find information about this, as well as a free booklet, from the tourist office.
Opposite Tarascon, in Beaucaire, the medieval castle is one of the most important of its kind in the south of France.
