Splash of Art DecoAntwerp
When I’m in a sportive mood, I’ll always look for some nice environment with a slice of History in it. The swimming pool at the Veldstraat is one of the nicest places to stretch your body in a pure art deco style.
Swimming in History
During the interwar, Antwerp was hosting the seventh Olympic Games and the World Exposition. These were exciting times for architecture in this city. One of these examples is the Zwembad Veldstraat, a wonderful place to swim. Throughout the years the building started to become in a poor condition so it needed a complete renovation. In 2004 they closed down the place and they started looking at the original plans of the architect. A few years later, the city of Antwerp gave us back a paradise to swim nearby Park Spoor Noord and I’m very excited about it.
Besides the 33 meter long swimming pool, you’ll also find a brand new spa to relax in, a hot tub, a herbal bath and a relaxing room. Pausing a moment here to take some time for your self is an excellent way to start the day. I visit this place often by bike, then take a good long swim and at the end I eat a healthy snack at the cafeteria. It’s a good combination.
One important thing: shorts are not allowed so put on your bathing trunks.
Open Mon-Fri: 7am-10pm
Antwerp has no secrets for me: designer shops, fashion design and custom-tailoring workshops, pastry shops you can't afford to miss, small, quaint hotels off the main tourist routes, cultural book shops and wine bars... You'll love to come back. Promise! My little extra: fashion!
