Due to work on the high-speed line in The Netherlands, trains will not stop at the Schiphol station.

The Schiphol station can only be reached by local trains departing from Rotterdam. To reach Paris, Brussels or Antwerp, you must purchase a ticket from Rotterdam. Print then your travel confirmation to travel free between Rotterdam and Schiphol. This will be your ticket.

Antwerp was founded on the right bank of the river Scheldt. For many centuries the water was the border between Flanders & Brabant. Since the beginning of the 20th century it became part of the city.

Like a bridge over troubled water…

For many years the politicians have been discussing whether we should build a bridge over the Scheldt or not. Instead we dug several tunnels. A few for cars, one for bikes and a very special one for walkers.

This extraordinary Art-Deco construction has a special place in my heart. As a fan of this period, I’m always excited to get up on the original wooden ‘30s escalator. It goes approximately 32 meters underground. Luckily it’s a protected monument so this will be here for many years to come...

Continue your walk

Going down at the Sint-Jansvliet is a journey on itself. It is the best way to join the other side for a nice walk. At Linkeroever you can swim and go to the beach (but don’t expect palmtrees), but in fall I would recommend it. As soon as you're out of the tunnel, you'll find a great playground for children. They have a sailing club and tennis courts. A perfect way to get into a sporty mood ! The stunning view at the skyline of Antwerp is so beautiful, especially in the evening. Romance is never far away...

Tanguy, 32 PERSONAL SHOPPER

Antwerp has no secrets for me: designer shops, fashion design and custom-tailoring workshops, pastry shops you can't afford to miss, small, quaint hotels off the main tourist routes, cultural book shops and wine bars... You'll love to come back. Promise! My little extra: fashion!
