Here in the old city centre of Antwerp, just steps from the waterfront, you’ll find the bar Homey. It’s nothing like the see-and-be-seen spots on Antwerp’s upscale south side, the atmosphere here is way more laid back. DJs and small local groups show up regularly to play for the young generation of artists who tend to congregate here.

Homey = friend

In English, Homey can mean cosy and inviting, as well as being slang for a ‘good friend’, and that just about sums it up at this place! This little café with a bit of a Berlin vibe to it is located far from the tourist highlights. With low tables, vintage chairs, and wooden cabinets full of board games, you feel instantly at home.

House specialty Lassi

In winter, it’s nice to take a seat at one of the wooden benches and warm up with a steaming fresh-ginger tea, or try the house mojito*, made with whisky instead of rum. Another cocktail you’ve got to taste is the Lassi, a yogurt drink originally from India, blended with Indian spices, sugar or fruit and water. Another great thing about Homey is that there’s always room at its outdoor seating and cocktails are served any time of day. For movie lovers, the proprietor of Homey also runs the next-door video rental called ‘Take Out’.

Open Monday to Sunday from 12:00-01:00.

Marie-France, 32 Public relations manager

Born in Africa, I've lived between Europe, the United States and my homeland. A real mix of cultures! I'm always connected to social networks and on the lookout for great fashion, lifestyle, music and outing deals. I work in Antwerp as a public relations manager. I'm also a presenter for a TV music channel. My little extra: I like to get out and meet people.
