The Red Star Line Museum commemorates the millions of immigrants who set sail from Antwerp, in search of a new life in the United States and Canada.
On the 28th of September 2013, a new museum will be opening in Antwerp, the Red Star Line Museum. It will tell the story of the two million Europeans who emigrated, via Antwerp, to the United States. The influence that this population had on contemporary culture is undeniable. Over the centuries, the port of Antwerp has made the city a hub where all manner of exotic spices, food, plants, cloth and luxury goods have been transported by ship. Cosmopolitan philosophers, scientists and artists turned the city into a thriving metropolis. This mix of influences and histories and the intersection of the arts created a unique city.
This museum was developed by a Belgian-American committee, to highlight the migration of recent centuries. Visitors to the museum will be able to follow all the steps along a traveller's way, starting from the Antwerp train station, then embarking on the Red Star Line and finally, arrival in the promised land, America! I love the idea of visiting this museum and tracing the history, origins and roots of yesterday's Europeans, who became the Americans of today!
Born in Africa, I've lived between Europe, the United States and my homeland. A real mix of cultures! I'm always connected to social networks and on the lookout for great fashion, lifestyle, music and outing deals. I work in Antwerp as a public relations manager. I'm also a presenter for a TV music channel. My little extra: I like to get out and meet people.
