With its typical landscape of polders and old farms, Waterland is a little irrigated paradise that combines fresh air with all sorts of sports. I go there all the time in the spring and summer just to relax or burn off extra energy. The countryside is magnificent and the atmosphere is unique. You see endless fields and feel in complete harmony with nature.

Sail, breathe, get away

The big advantage of Waterland is that you can do a variety of outdoor sports regardless of whether you prefer bicycling or long hikes. There are dozens of marked trails for hikers who want to explore the region. I recommend boating and, particularly, renting a canoe for the afternoon. The little villages of Ransdorp, Durgerdan and Holysloot are all nearby. And it's all just half an hour from downtown Amsterdam!

Land van Leeghwater

It was impossible to live in Waterland for many years and the Dutch have fought back the water for centuries. Today solid dikes and artificial water retention systems make it possible to move and live there without worrying. This exceptional region is now a UNESCO world heritage site.

I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
