THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT
Naughty, but creativeAmsterdam
Red Light District
It's difficult to talk about Amsterdam without mentioning the Red Light District. It's been drawing the curious for several decades. It's also an up and coming neighbourhood which has a cosmopolitan crowd and stimulates creativity.
Sex shops and fashion workshops
Although its mischievous reputation is fully earned, the Red Light District is also welcoming to all kinds of creative people. A recent initiative helped young fashion designers set up shop with affordable rents, providing new energy to the city. A Fashion's Night Out was also organised to help energise the houses. You could say that the Red Light District is in perpetual motion.
A huge mix of different people
Young, old, foreign and locals happily mix in the Red Light District. This diversity makes its strength. The Rossebuurt, as residents call it, is like no other area of the city. Couples hand-in-hand, amateur photographers and buses full of tourists are part of the daily landscape. It's the chaos - and the open door to many fantasies - that give it its unique character.
I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
