Located in a majestic white building on the banks of the IJ River since 2012, EYE is a cinema, a film preservation institute and an exhibition space dedicated to promoting and explaining the 7th art.

A formidable collection

With more than 35,000 films (nearly all digitised) in inventory ranging from the first silent films to the very latest contemporary productions, EYE is proud to be one of the most important cinematographic collections in the Netherlands. It also includes many unpublished documents, some of which are exhibited in the entry hall. The cinema's programming is eclectic. EYE shows popular films as well as art and experimental films. The four projection rooms each have their own atmosphere and can seat nearly 640 people. That's enough to pack the ferry most visitors take from the central train station to the cinema (behind which it is possible to park, I assure you). EYE organises themed exhibitions, educational programs and retrospectives all year round.

Irresistible curiosity

You may not be a film buff…but, it's difficult to resist the sculptural beauty of the complex designed by the Viennese architecture firm Delugan Meissl. EYE is completely covered in aluminium panels that change colour depending on the weather or the lights projected on it in the evening. It rises on Amsterdam's north bank like a promise of better tomorrows for this ancient port district that is slowly reinventing itself a little at a time. Look at it from several different angles and you'll see that each provides a different perspective. You won't get tired of it!

I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
