The goat paradiseAmsterdam
Nieuwe Meerlaan 4
+ 31 (0) 206455034
Beside the Amsterdamse Bos, Amsterdam’s largest forest, the Ridammerhoeve farm appears at first to be like a US-style ranch. But it’s not horses that live here; it’s a hundred or so goats.
The very least you can say is that they work hard at the biodynamic farm founded in 1988 by Corine Riteco and Willem Dam. Most of the milk produced by the goats (for sale by the litre) is turned into 100% natural farm produce right there. These include butter, yoghurt, fromage blanc, hard cheese and more. You can come and taste some samples in the friendly refreshment area next door to the little shop (or on the terrace during the summer). Give it a go!
Bottle-feeding the kids
For children, the main attraction is the goats themselves, of course. In a separate pen, all year round they can bottle feed the smallest of the kids there. Those little pink tongues searching for the bottle teat will tickle any clumsy hands and there’ll be lots of laughter! And there’s just one way of getting your child out of the pen, and that’s with the promise of an ice cream; but one made from goat’s milk, naturally.
The farm is open from Wednesday to Monday, 10 am to 5 pm. Closed on Tuesdays. Free entry.
A bottle of feed costs €0.50.
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
