An authentic brown caféAmsterdam
Blonde Sien's second homeWith a little luck, you'll meet Blonde Sien, the grande dame of the establishment, a peppy octogenarian with platinum blonde hair. In 1937, she poured the first draught beer* from the chromed copper tap in the middle of the bar while standing on a stool (she was 10 at the time). Rooie Nelis was her father. The café is her second home. It tells her story, and the story of her family and friends. The walls (and even the ceiling) bear witness. They’re packed with souvenir photos, yellow newspaper clipping and all kinds of posters.
A warm atmosphereRooie Nelis has seen a steady stream of popular singers come through its doors since it opened (the young generation of romantic singers, like Danny de Munk, still perform here to an enthusiastic audience at weekends), as well as football and television stars and politicians. It has even welcomed Queen Beatrix! The clientele is no longer strictly local, but the atmosphere hasn't changed. Everyone stills sings together behind the high white curtains with a cool beer or a gin in hand. *: Drinking alcohol can be harmful to your health. Drink in moderation.
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
