CHRISTMAS ICE SKATING
Family-fun under the lightsAmsterdam
PATINOIRES DE NOEL
Free, if you have your own skates
As the Christmas party season approaches, Amsterdam is kitting itself out in lights! To really enjoy this special atmosphere, just get those skates on and launch yourself onto one of the city’s open air ice rinks (as long as the canals are sufficiently frozen over). They’re open from 10 am to midnight and entry is free if you have your own skates. If not, you can hire them there. What could be more magical than finishing off the evening on the ice rink beneath the lights with your family?
And to warm yourself up
Close to the ice rink you’re sure to find a refreshment stall for a reviving hot chocolate or some poffertjes, small Dutch pancakes sprinkled with icing sugar (I can’t resist them). You may well find yourself at a Christmas market too, with a nostalgia-inducing merry-go-round or a little train pulled by reindeer. Amsterdam has a way of amazing its winter visitors every year!
Address: Open air ice rinks - Rembrandtplein, Museumplein or Leidseplein - Amsterdam.
Open every day from mid-November to end of December, from 10 am to midnight.
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
