Experience contemporary art like never beforeAmsterdam

Following extensive renovations which lasted nearly 8 years and were widely documented, my favourite museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, temple of modern and contemporary art has finally reopened its doors...with 70% more space!
Welcome to the "bathtub"
The flamboyant new wing next to the old red brick building already has a nickname. Amsterdammers have dubbed it the "bathtub". It's because the construction with its bright white finish looks incredibly like the ubiquitous feature of our bathrooms. In any case, it really makes us want to take a look over its wide, flat edges. Inside, what a surprise! Never before have artworks been displayed in a better setting. The space and natural light enhance the canvases, objects and installations. What a treat!
Malevitch, Appel, Man Ray and others
The abundance of temporary exhibitions makes it almost possible to forget the wonders of the permanent collection: the spectacular fresco by Karel Appel, the Malevitch pieces, the Matisse works and of course the complete bedroom by Gerrit Rietveld, one of the rare interiors from the Dutch "De Stijl" movement to have been preserved intact. I also recommend the section devoted to photographers and graphic artists, where I like to linger in front of the Man Ray works. After your visit, be sure to stop off at the restaurant. Its terrace on Museumplein is particularly pleasant in the summer months.
Closed on Mondays. Open Thursday evenings only until 22:00.
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
