Gateway to the sun
L’accent qui chante, la bouillabaisse, les calanques, le pastis et la pétanque. Archi connu ? Pourtant, Marseille a encore de quoi vous surprendre.
Beyond the classics you all know, Marseilles can be full of surprises. For example, the city is the biggest port in France and turned its old docks into a shopping and leisure area. Another attraction: two urban vineyards, one at the bottom of Saint-Victor Abbey and the other facing the Palais du Pharo.
There is also a 6 meter high pyramid, called the “Pyramid of the King of Spain” and a Japanese garden in the heart of the Borély park. Does this park look familiar? You’re probably one of the millions of viewers of the French series Plus Belle la Vie which takes place in Marseilles.
Marseilles is also home to the Mucem, the first national museum dedicated to the architecture, heritage and culture of the Mediterranean area.
