The impressionist city

By its spirit and climate, Aix-en-Provence is already a city of the Mediterranean, even though it isn’t on the coast. In other words: it is synonymous to the notion of good living! Did you know that Aix was Émile Zola’s home town and that Cézanne spent his entire life there? You can step in the latter’s private world by visiting the house where he painted. You can also visit his Jas-de-Bouffan family house as depicted in one of his paintings. Cézanne’s works can be found, amongst those of other renowned impressionists, in the Granet Museum, known to be one of the most beautiful museums in France.

Sweets lovers will enjoy the local speciality: the famous calisson. It is made of 3 main ingredients: almonds, melon and orange blossom. In Aix, sweets are sacred! The calisson receives a blessing every 1st Sunday of September at the Church of St. John of Malta.
