Environment: Thalys is aligned with the Paris Agreements
We are committed to providing our customers with the most ecologically sustainable journey between our various destinations. Thalys is convinced that companies should play their part in the global energy transition. Thus, we are the first European player to define its greenhouse gas emissions target within the framework of the Science Based Targets Initiative, aligning our strategy with the Paris Agreements.
Since 2015, Thalys has been a sponsor of The Shift Project think tank and participates in the debate on the transition to a carbon-free economy with players from the private sector, academia, civil society and institutions.
This action plan extends to all areas of energy consumption, from driving trains to the specifications of head office, from the transport plan and even to advice on parking.
Sustainable procurement and responsible consumption
The company’s social commitment is reflected in our everyday activities as shown by the publication of the Ethical Charter which is designed to provide the framework for our activities and to give such actions the company’s seal of responsibility. In this way our staff, in carrying out their various professions, become active players in sustainable development, at the same time reinforcing their commitment and increasing their expertise.
In addition, Europeans are clearly desirous of easier travel but they also wish the means of transport to be the most sustainable possible. Thalys supports this change in society towards more ecologically sustainable lifestyles. Thus, our Izy offer encourages adopting such a change of transport method, for example by taking into account external factors linked to its core activity or offering more organic catering in Premium class.
Thalys and its cross-border cultural links
In the four countries where the company operates, Thalys regularly enters into partnerships that stimulate cross-border cultural relationships with an emphasis on social solidarity.
For example, since 2017, Thalys has joined forces with the Secours Populaire to support the “Holidays for the forgotten” (children’s trips to host families in the Netherlands) and the Green Santas programmes, to open new horizons for those who suffer from poverty and exclusion.
Thalys also supports a socio-cultural project initiated by the Wiels cultural centre, aimed at strengthening social cohesion in the Brussels-Midi station district.
