Rotterdam is a real harbour city and what could be more fun than staying the night on a real Dutch freighter during your visit to Rotterdam? The owners of the ship, Rob and Trees, rebuilt the cabins and the starboard room into several nice B&B rooms. They live on the 33-meter long ship as well, which used to transport wood between Sweden and the Netherlands.

Ships passing by

When I was a little girl I always stood along the banks of the river Maas to watch the enormous ships passing by. I wondered what they were carrying, where they went and how the people lived on such ships. De Unitas gives you that insight.

Sleeping in the cabins

The ship is reached via a footbridge (which can be very steep with low tide) and after a small climb and clamber exercise you enter the ship itself where Rob and Trees give you a warm welcome. The rooms (2 persons) are not that big, but fully equipped with everything you need. You even have your own bathroom, with a nice view (through the small round window) over the picturesque harbour of Rotterdam South. So enjoy your shower! The boat is located in the middle of residential area with supermarket close by and 10 minutes from the city centre by tram. Afraid of getting seasick? Don’t worry; you barely feel the motion of the ship. Opening hours Seven days a week.

I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
