The giftshop Waar is a shop filled with many nice things, like handmade notebooks, jewellery, accessories for your house, but also olive oil, thee and coffee. They also have bags with famous Rotterdam buildings painted on it. All products are made by small manufacturers from over the whole world and sustainability is on top of their mind.

Gnome from Rotterdam

Waar is a gift shop in the centre of Rotterdam where you find many different types of articles, all made of sustainable materials. They have notebooks, travel dairy books, candles, vases, stuff for your bathroom, cards and nice leather bags. Because of the fact that the products are sustainable, each one has a different story. The owner of the shop can tell you everything about the background of the items. Some articles are produced by artists from Rotterdam or even made from materials out of Rotterdam. Like the earthman. This small poppet is made of clay from Rotterdam by the Rotterdam artist Jos van der Meulen. Each gnome is unique by the number on his back.

Dutch touch

When you are looking for a typical Dutch present to take home with you, then Waar is the place to be. They sell nice fridge magnets with tulips on it for example, but they have lot’s more. Searching for a present with a Rotterdam touch? Waar sells t-shirts, caps and backpacks with a print of the famous Erasmusbridge and the typical Rotterdam phrase: ‘Rotterdam, ja toch niettan’. Would you like to send a card at home? Here they definitely have it, like these postcards with typical Dutch scenes of a caravan with our lovely tulips.

I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
