The eye-catcher of the cityRotterdam
The Erasmusbrug is truly the eye-catcher of the city of Rotterdam. Especially on a beautiful day when the white bridge stands out against the blue sky, I could look at it forever. And the view from the bridge is also a treat. Especially at sunset when the lights come on in the city, there's truly something magical about it.
The bridge over the River Meuse was built in 1996 and connects the city centre with the south of Rotterdam. The 139 meter high, arching pillar of the bridge suggests the shape of a swan's neck, hence the nickname. The Erasmusbrug is accessible by car, tram, bike or on foot. No visit to Rotterdam is complete without crossing the bridge. And don't forget to stop to enjoy the view of the skyline!
Fireworks show from the bridge
Events are held regularly on and around the bridge. For example, each year thousands of runners pound over the bridge during the Rotterdam marathon. On New Year's Eve, it's the site of a breathtaking fireworks show that thousands of spectators from all over the country line the quays to watch.
I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
