A unique atmosphereWhat's the programme for a weekend at the flea market? Search some, haggle a little, try to recognise the signature of a famous artist in the corner of a painting...the Vanves flea market is a must in Paris! Over 400 stands open at 8 am. Everything is much more accessible than at the St-Ouen flea market. The main attraction, though, is the friendly atmosphere which is long gone from other markets like this one. The many Japanese tourists seem to have understood this very well and inevitably include this Sunday event in their tour of the capital.
A market with a great deal of historyThe sidewalks are full of sundry objects, chandeliers and infantry sabres; there’s a travelling refreshment stall on a corner, a '50s stand, 78 rpm records…it's all here in one big happy mess. Whether authentic or just copies, the objects share their "visible" history, that is, they've survived. In a way, they bear witness to the past. That’s the reason why they deserve that you take a little time to ask the dealer about them and try to lift the mystery. A brand new tramway will take you directly to the heart of the capital after you've finished your stroll through the past.
Every weekend of the year from 7 am to 2 pm.
Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
