The grand boulevards
This district has been reinventing itself in recent years as a more cheerful place. The grand boulevards are brimming with respectable bars after the example of Delaville Café. In the 1980s, the closing of the Palace left the restless youth somewhat at loose ends. A bit later came the glory years of the Rex club, and the first weekly Unity parties with David Guetta. But despite its central location, the zone remained fairly anaemic and utter deadsville after 8 PM.
All new, all good !
La Conserverie opened its doors in a narrow little cross-street, where once stood mass-market clothing workshops. Cosy and industrial, it’s a bar that welcomes you without a fuss, as you gradually sink into the comfy interior, where you can enjoy exquisite tapas and delicious cocktails. And so far it hasn’t become overcrowded, so now’s the time to go.
Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
