No need to leave Paris to find a little corner of paradise for a weekday picnic. Leave your lunch box at home and order delicious take-away dishes from the city's fresh food caterers.
The sushi trend is on its way out. Eating red tuna is almost an error of taste and organically farmed salmon is not yet standard sashimi fare. Too bad. But to enjoy fun, delicious, super-fresh sushi, head to Planet Sushi. There, master sushi artisans prepare "makislim chicken spicy" and "makinutella mango" to compensate for the oceans' depleting fish stocks.
Every noon, in the Saint Augustin district, an eatery offering a variety of fresh pasta dishes really reels them in. Mezzo di Pasta has opened around a hundred franchises in the space of only 5 years. It's practical and super fast and the pasta's prepared al dente, which is easier on the figure!
Another idea, for lunch near the Champs-Elysées, is to take away a "Pleasures from Byblos" tray meal or a selection of meze from Noura, a refined and very popular Lebanese caterer. Noura now provides its catering services to the Institut du Monde Arabe, with its sublime terrace. Excellent news!
One last piece of advice. Never forget that Paris is overpopulated! So, for a tranquil lunch, simply picnic an hour ahead of the crowds.
Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
