A bistro unlike any other
Here, at the end of a street away from busy arteries, is an authentic establishment whose reputation travelled beyond our borders long ago. L’Ami Louis, is a bistro, not a brasserie, that cultivates the image and tastes of a France immortalised and idealised in the memories of travellers and film makers.
The restaurant or Presidents
Together, Presidents Chirac and Clinton celebrated this bistro, which my grandparents could have decorated. François Mitterrand came to eat ortolan, a rare bird he loved and which is now a protected species.
An extensive menu
Warning! This is a pantagruelian bistro and the portions are enormous. Come to have a feast with your friends, eat duck confit or grilled mutton chops or even a (whole!) roast chicken. You know what I mean. This is the exact opposite of "nouvelle cuisine". Although the truculent boss, Mr Thierry de la Brosse, the spirit of the place, left in 2010, the team has kept the place going strong! Be aware, however that the bill will be quite stiff.
A la carte: approx. €100/pers.Service until 10:30 pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday
Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
