This secret garden in the heart of the Marais is known chiefly for its communal vegetable patch. On weekends, you can lounge there on a bench beside the pretty fountain.

Secret Garden

Walking down the rue des Blancs Manteaux, you would never suspect the existence of this little oasis of tranquillity. To get to it, you have to cross a threshold and follow a corridor … Away from the noises of the city, this mediaeval style micro-garden is home to 250 species of plants. Each one is labelled with its properties: medicinal, pigment, condiments…

Protecting biodiversity

Called the 'potager du Marais' (kitchen garden of the Marais), this is one of the rare communal gardens to be found in this pricey, upscale neighbourhood. Run by 'l’Association des Jardiniers du 4ème', it forms part of the project for sustainable development and helps to maintain biodiversity in an urban setting. Also used as a teaching facility, there are various workshops and exhibitions where you can learn more about nature, sorting and recycling waste.

Open to the public on weekends

Brigitte, 39 MOTHER

Mother, bohemian and Parisian, I love Paris' cosmopolitan side and warmth. Exhibitions, walks, outings with the children...I'll take you on a discovery of the most welcoming places in Paris. My little extra: with my love of food as my compass, I always set course for the best lemon tarts in the city.
