The Spirito-Martini is a club with a difference. It's a unique establishment, built in a former church that has since been renovated. The spirit of the place immediately appealed to me – no pun intended. That has a lot to do with the elegant decor and its liberal use of crystal and velvet.

Confession box-cum-bar

The Spirito occupies a small street a short distance from the Porte de Namur. Every time I arrive at the entrance, I'm always surprised to be heading to a church for a night out. As soon as you enter, sparkling chandeliers highlight the building's architecture. The dance floor covers the entire ground floor and the bar is where the confession box once stood!

Sunday best

If this place has one thing in common with a church, it's the rigorous dress code. Chic clothing is a must if you want to make sure you'll be allowed in, but the effort is quickly rewarded as soon as you hit the dance floor, where the DJ mixes electro with rock and pop. Towards the end of the evening, I like to have a drink on the upper floor, where there is a superb view of the VIP area and the dance floor.

Open Friday and Saturday from 10:30 pm.

I'm mad about food. I'm a Brussels native by adoption and I started a fun and girly cooking blog. I decrypt all of the new trends that will eventually show up in your plate! My little extra: surprising culinary discoveries I share with you with great zest and appetite.
