AT THE HEART OF THE ATOMIUMBrussels
This giant rooted structure in the north of Brussels is the symbol of Belgium. And not only is it good to look at, it's worth a visit! The structure's spheres are hollow and linked by steps and escalators. This is a great destination for exhibitions and boasts a panoramic view over the capital.
The structure of the Atomium contains nine shiny spheres – not hard to spot in this flat country of ours. It's a bit like standing under the Eiffel Tower: you will need a wide angle lens to take photos! But don't put your camera away just yet, head to the restaurant on the top floor where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of Brussels. On a fine day you can see as far as Antwerp!
A cultural wonder
The Atomium (a macro representation of an iron crystal) was built for the World's Fair in 1958. Two of the spheres house a permanent exhibition dedicated to that great event. Temporary exhibitions are also on offer. I particularly enjoyed Be.WELCOME#2, made up of testimonials on the theme of Belgium, immigration and identity struggles.
Open every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
I'm mad about food. I'm a Brussels native by adoption and I started a fun and girly cooking blog. I decrypt all of the new trends that will eventually show up in your plate! My little extra: surprising culinary discoveries I share with you with great zest and appetite.
