Before becoming a wonderful tea-room perfect for taking the time to enjoy savoury or sweet specialities, La Mercerie (or The Haberdasher’s) was....a haberdasher’s! A location with a soul which transports us back to the Château of Versailles, right in the heart of the Flagey quarter.

Baroque style

It was around the 1600s when baroque art emerged in Italy. Who could have dared to imagine that a new establishment in Brussels would be acknowledging its glory more than 400 years later? That has now become reality thanks to Anne Goldschmidt and her superb Mercerie. Having been around the world, she applied her great taste in setting up this cosy new tea-room. The sixty or so porcelain, enamel and painted flowers on the ceiling make the atmosphere absolutely unique. Sublime!

Art history

To provide a window into her world, Anne Goldschmidt used her expertise as an art historian, painter and decorator. She was able to count on two friends, also painters, Anne Marcq and Catherine Lédé. Step into La Mercerie and prepare to be enthralled!

Sophie, 31 FASHION ADDICT

I work as a fashion consultant, tear through the papers every morning, race off to concerts whenever I can and claim ""belgitude"" as a guarantee of original quality! My little extra: new shops, trendy concept-stores, organic restaurants and artists' workshops.
