Sometimes chefs set themselves some odd challenges. In creating Rouge Tomate nearly 10 years ago, its founder was seeking to promote a healthy, balanced cuisine, without butter, without cream and without bad fats. Was he entirely sane? Absolutely!
A journey to the Mediterranean
When a friend of mine told me: "This evening, I am taking you to Rouge Tomate. It’s wonderful, you will see! They promote the Cretan diet", my heart sank. What pleasure could there be in ultra-healthy eating in a restaurant? On arrival, it was the cosy décor that first caught my eye, and then very quickly the à la carte dishes. The two chefs have turned nutritional constraints into an unarguable asset: their cuisine is inventive, surprising and full of flavour and colour.
From Brussels to New-York
On the back of its Belgian success, Rouge Tomate tried their luck on the other side of the Atlantic. They completely rose to the challenge: the New York branch quickly won itself a Guide Michelin star. Since then, the Brussels team has secretly dreamed of going stellar too.
Monday to Friday 12 pm – 2.30 pm and 7 pm – 10.30 pm - Saturday: 7 pm – 10.30 pm.
I work as a fashion consultant, tear through the papers every morning, race off to concerts whenever I can and claim ""belgitude"" as a guarantee of original quality! My little extra: new shops, trendy concept-stores, organic restaurants and artists' workshops.
