Bernard Gavilan’s legendary boutique on Rue Blaes is a haunt for collectors desperate to find that special something that no-one else could possibly have. You quickly get used to the place: Bernard has been obsessed by vintage items for years, and his cheery disposition is contagious.

Unique accessories

Although his Marolles boutique contains a lovely selection of clothing, accessories are Bernard’s forte. And it’s not all about exclusive brands; 1970s wide sunglasses, psychedelic scarves, 1960s high-heeled boots, sexy shiny belts and the most outrageous colours are all on the menu here.

Affordable prices and designer assistance

Bernard adores fashion, but one senses that he doesn’t take it too seriously. His philosophy is to preserve the playful charm of vintage clothing, making it accessible, easy to wear and inclusive. It’s not easy to say no. Each year Bernard organises a “customise me” fashion festival that allows young stylists to rework vintage items. This event gives emerging talent the chance to stand out and win various awards, but without having to follow the traditional path.

Open every day from 10 am to 6 pm.

Philippe, 38 AESTHETE

My fashion job takes me around the world throughout the year. I love flea markets and hunting for antiques year round, meeting up with friends at art show openings, going to fashion shows and being first to discover a new restaurant.
My little extra: introducing people to the "arty" and underground side of Brussels!"
