Van Ravenstein is a real temple to the avant-garde in Amsterdam. It's known for having launched many brands in the Dutch market including Bernhard Willhelm, Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf. Gerda van Ravenstein welcomes her loyal clientèle in a calm and luminous space. She continues to bet on new talent and works with her daughter who is continuing the tradition.

A nose for the right neighbourhood

When Gerda opened her boutique at 40, the Neuf Rues neighbourhood was nothing like it is today. At the beginning of the 1990s there were a few antiques dealers and vintage shops, but Gerda's instincts were right and she felt things would change. Her first luxury prêt-à-porter designer line was Dries van Noten, which she bought and sold starting in 1993.

Looking for new talent

A pioneer at heart, Gerda discovered the best designers long before everyone else. That was the case for Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou whom she noticed right away because of their unique prints. The service is always discreet in the boutique and I like to get advice from the staff. You can be sure to find a rare item that's totally unique.
