Due to work on the high-speed line in The Netherlands, trains will not stop at the Schiphol station.

The Schiphol station can only be reached by local trains departing from Rotterdam. To reach Paris, Brussels or Antwerp, you must purchase a ticket from Rotterdam. Print then your travel confirmation to travel free between Rotterdam and Schiphol. This will be your ticket.

Frankandael Park is a bit further out of the city centre which means there are less crowds than at Sarphati and Vondelpark. The low visitor numbers to Frankandael make it relatively undiscovered and pleasant but it's not just down to the tranquil setting that I like this green sanctuary to the East of the city.

A beautiful place

Like many of the parks in Amsterdam, Frankandael is a former estate as shown by the 17th century manor house at the entrance to the park. Today, the Frankandael manor house is home to a restaurant and reception rooms and also hosts concerts or art exhibitions.

A multifaceted park

With regard to restaurants, in the middle of the park there is the well-known Kas, the glasshouse in which its own vegetables are given the haute-cuisine treatment. The park is surrounded by lush changing decor. There are great expanses of freshly mown grass on which to stretch out and portions of wild undergrowth. You will also find school gardens and allotment plots.

What I absolutely love is the rectangular belt of canals. Bordered by long grass, it is the preferred sanctuary of city herons who have made it their home.

I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, but I prefer to be followed on a bicycle than on Twitter. I love Amsterdam for...its little streets, riches, treasures and all of the spots where you can get a really good beer. Follow the guide! My little extra: discovering nature
