Indonesia having formerly been a colony of the Netherlands, its people have a special place within Dutch society. Their cooking is now part of local culture and many dishes such as kip satay (chicken with peanuts) or nasi goreng (fried rice) are now classic dishes in the Netherlands.
When I feel like introducing someone to Indonesian cookery, I take them to Tempo Doeloe. Their rijsttafel is well known for a good reason, which is that it’s simply the best in the city. You should make sure you book in advance as there’s not much room.
As a favourite among tourists, the menu shows which dishes are spicy and which are not, but my advice is to opt for the large rijsttafel, which is very nicely spicy for my own taste, and quite delicious. I’m always going back there.
Open every day from 6 pm. Booking advised.
I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, but I prefer to be followed on a bicycle than on Twitter. I love Amsterdam for...its little streets, riches, treasures and all of the spots where you can get a really good beer. Follow the guide! My little extra: discovering nature
