"The Emerald of the Alps"
At the junction of the Alps and the Jura, at the doors of Grenoble and Chambéry, the Grande Chartreuse is a citadel that has broken ties with modern life.
Steep heights, scented woods, majestic cliffs and mysterious forests...every step will bring you closer to relaxation and well-being. The birth place of the Carthusian order, the "Emerald of the Alps", as Stendhal callled it, became a Natural Regional Park in 1995.
Today, the Réserve Naturelle des Hauts de Chartreuse is a preservation, management and study tool of fauna, flora and landscapes. Accessible only by foot, it has preserved exceptional natural riches: over 820 plant species, some of which are unique, and 150 animal species.
To discover this region, 65 ski slopes, 255 km of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails and over 1000 km of paths await you.
