Brussels
City of contrasts
Building on its mining past to become a cultural hub: this is the challenge won hands down by Duisburg and its Landschaftspark.
Like other cities in the Ruhr area, Duisburg has a rich industrial and mining history.
The past left deep marks but Duisburg was able to reinvent itself and capitalise on its history. For example, the Landschaftspark, a former mining site north of the city, has been transformed into a recreational and cultural park, while keeping the vestiges of the past. It includes a street food festival with flavours from all around the world, cooking shows and a vegan offering. On the same site, climbing, diving, aerial courses and trails...will delight all thrill seekers.
The city has also a lot to offer culturally speaking, ranging from film projection to theatrical performance. They hold one concert after the other, from classical to electro: there is something suitable for every taste!
