Uit je eigen stad (from your own town) is a place on the edge of the city where vegetables and fruits are grown. The products can be bought in their own little shop or try these right away in the restaurant. They also give guided tours to show visitors what they do.

How do they grow?

Fruits and vegetables growing in the city are quite unusual. So I’m proud telling you that for two years now, Rotterdam has its own city farm run by Bas de Groot. He set up the urban agriculture because nowadays lots of townsfolk don't know how the vegetables, which end up on their plate, actually grow. Want to know how this happens? Pay a visit to this unique concept and book a guided tour. Discover the different types of cabbage, tomatoes and lettuce. They also keep chickens and from 2014 there will be a huge fish farm as well.

Urban meal

I can imagine you want to know how it all tastes. Is it different from the veggies from the supermarket? Luckily you can taste it right away, because there’s a shop and restaurant on the premises. It is located in a large warehouse. When I first got there I was pleasantly surprised. It is a beautiful location with a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. The cat, named Poesbas, jumps around and there is a cosy fireplace. From your table you have a view at the large and beautiful open kitchen where everything is freshly prepared. So take a seat and enjoy your urban meal!

Opening hours restaurant

Wednesday from Saturday from 11.00 till 22.00
Sunday from 11:00 till 17:00

I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
